In the main event of UFC 258, we witnessed Kamaru Usman finishing his former teammate, Gilbert Burns in a highly-anticipated championship fight. With the win, Usman got his 13th consecutive win in the welterweight division (most in the division's history, breaking GSP's record). This was a fight filled with a great story and a lot of post-fight emotions. Let's recap what happened in the championship main event.

Full Recap

Burns started the fight guns blazing with immediate pressure. He then made the champ touch the floor with a big right hand. Gilbert pretty much dominated the rest of the first round. I had Burns winning the first, 10-9.

The right hand in the first definitely woke Kamaru up. His jab was landing so perfectly, which led to him rocking Gilbert with a right hand as well. Towards the end of the round, Usman drops Burns with a jab. I had Usman easily winning the second, 10-8.

The third round ended very quickly, as the champ switched stances to southpaw and landed a big right jab to finish the fight. After the fight, Kamaru was on his knees staring at his friend as Burns had tears and blood rushing down his face.

Why Usman won the fight?

Kamaru's jab was the difference maker in the fight. His jab was absolutely perfect on all levels. Powerful, accurate, and very effective. Not only was the perfect jab the reason for the victory, so was the champ's experience. As I predicted, the king at 170 would be the factor for triumph. Being rocked early in the fight and coming back to dominate are what champions are truly made of.

Final Takeaway

The best welterweight in the world proved why he can go down as the greatest ever. He has a very good case of being the G.O.A.T at 170, especially after breaking GSP's record and still being undefeated in his UFC career. With another dominant title defense, we are currently witnessing greatness in Kamaru Usman.
