Why the 49ers should draft Justin Fields.

By Lourence Alturino

The question remains. Who will the San Francisco 49ers choose to be their franchise quarterback at the 3rd overall pick this year? Justin Fields? Mac Jones? Trey Lance? My favorite football team is the 49ers and I believe we should take Justin Fields.

Justin Fields

The Ohio State QB is one of the best quarterback prospects in the draft. He didn't have his best season this year, but the talent is definitely there. After a decent season, Fields absolutely shined when the lights were brightest. In the Sugar Bowl against Clemson, Fields had an amazing game with 385 yards, 6 touchdowns, and completing 78.6% of his passes. When the pressure was on him most, he outplayed the consensus #1 pick, Trevor Lawrence, and led Ohio State to the National Championship.

How Fields fits on the team?

Kyle Shanahan, 49ers head coach, has had plenty of success with pocket passer QBs like Jimmy Garoppolo and Kirk Cousins. Shanahan wants an elite player. "And, of course, if you can get a guy who's elite with his arm and can play in the pocket and do everything and still run around and make off-schedule plays, I mean, that's what you've seen with Mahomes. Everybody wants something like that." - Shanahan. Yes pocket passers have done great in his offense, but a mobile QB is perfect for any offense. Justin Fields stands at 6'3 and runs a 4.44 40-yard dash. Fields is very athletic and accurate on all areas of the field. Justin Fields can play the base Kyle Shanahan offense, but he can take that offense to the next level.
